Progressive not paying enough

Hi
3 weeks ago I was hit by a drunk driver head-on. He has progressive insurance and they are totaling my van and giving me $500 for it ,but the quote I got online is $2,950 with high mileage and age. My van is a chevy g20 conversion van that was custom built with a corvette engine, TV, rear air conditioning, and a custom built u-shaped rear seat that seats 4 with 2 more captains chair in front of it. The van is still in good condition with minimal rust. I just put new tires on it and a brand new radiator and transmission the day before I got hit. In my opinion the amount that progressive is giving me is way to low. It doesn't even cover the cost of the new transmission, radiator, and tires. I don't know where to go at this point. Any help would be great.

You didn't post the year of your van....or the mileage, also is it a clean title or 'rebuilt', 'prior salvage' title? Is this 500 and you keep the van? Or 500 and they take it? What state are you in?

If they are offering you 500.00 they are considering it basic transportation..Is it in pretty rough condition?

The new radiator and transmission (really a NEW transmission?), will not add any value at all, the vehicle is assessed assuming it has a good working transmission.

Three weeks and they are just now offering a total loss settlement? Why so long? Did they not have any contact info on you?

You can always go to your carrier if you have collision coverage. If you don't then you will need to PROVE your value to them. They would've had to prove theirs to you. Simply getting on the net may not do it, if the vans you are seeing on line are not really close to what yours was (condition included). You might try contacting some local GOOD used car dealers discribe your van see what they would sell it for.

Yes brand new transmission. It is a 1990 g20 van and has 179,689 miles on it. Clean title and no accidents on it until 3 weeks ago. Progressive could not give us a price on it because it was a "custom van" his words not mine, so they took it for almost two weeks to go over it with a fine tooth comb to give us a price. Yes I have full coverage on it. I'm in Pennsylvania and it is $500 and they take it.

If I were you then I would file it with my own carrier under your collision coverage, Progressive should 'front' your collision deductible, then your carrier will subrogate Prog. for the balance.

Conversion vans are really tough to get a value on, but three weeks is NUTS...They've been paying for a rental car for you all this time? I'd have that adjusters butt if I were their supervisor..

So I called progressive to ask for my van to be brought back and that was 3 days ago so I gave them another call. Well it seems that they have lost my van and they still refuse to give me more even though I found another being sold that is a year older than mine and is in worse condition. The guy wants $2500 for it and it has more miles than mine. Progressive just continues to screw me. Plus on top of this I can get $600 for just scraping it.
