I have had a policy for over 2 years with a permit, i purchased the policy at the same time that i bought my car. When I tried to switch companies I was told that they could not write the policy & the policy that i have is not legal. Is this true and what would my options be, what would i do next

What kind of "permit" are you talking about? Your post makes no sense. Auto insurance is attached to a VIN, not a license plate or permit to operate. Or did you not have a driver license (i.e., a "learner's permit)? And even that makes no sense, because you couldn't keep a learner's permit that long.

I do mean a learner's permit and just have to keep renewing it.

Why? Why wouldn't you go ahead and get a legal license? There are restrictions on that permit...correct?

Are you driving alone under a learner's permit? I don't get it. What seems to be the reason you have not obtained a driver license. Something is amiss here.

California, for example, does not allow repeated "renewals" of learner's permit.
