Is it better to market to leads by postcard or email?

I have the option to email leads or send a postcard to a rented list of seniors looking to buy insurance. I'm looking at either emailing 10,000 a week or sending a postcard using postcardmania.com preprinted postcards. Either way they would be directed to a link to go to the website, get quotes from 20 different carriers, and buy online all without agent contact.

Don't count on doing too much business by email with seniors, unless they are on the younger side. Most folks age 65 and older did not grow up with computers, many find them unfriendly, and others are just plain afraid of them. Asking them to do something online without the aid of an agent is almost like asking them to make a pact with the devil. They probably won't do it.

If your postcard directs them to go to a website instead of calling a live human being, expect the overwhelming majority to end up in the trash. You response rate could fall well below the 1-3 percent most mass mailers consider the benchmark of success.

So, you got the answer! Let your postcard direct your prospects to call a live human being. That's one good reason why tele-sales still survive..

I guess we don't anymore pay for tele-sales offers till we sign an agreement in person. We'd rather choose to meet someone who has good knowledge and carries information that's trustworthy. I'd always like to ensure that I'm picking the right thing whenever I'm filling out an online form, especially for things like insurance.
