Who negotiates medical bill payments in auto wreck?

My lawyer is going to get 33 1/3% or 40% of my settlement.
Should his services include negotiating a reduction in my medical bills OR is it my responsibility to negotiate that myself with the medical providers?

I want him to do everything his fee includes, but if negotiating this would just be a courtesy on his part, I might prefer to negotiate with the medical providers myself.

I was told one of my providers has a lien against me for payment of services.

That's about all your lawyer is going to be focusing on. Your ability to negotiate with your medical insurer might be better than your lawyer's. What you need to know is exactly how much your various providers are owed, collectively, and be sure that you get those payments made by the other party's insurance company outside of what ever portion the attorney thinks he's going to touch. Otherwise you'll have to make up the difference with whatever you have left over after your attorney gets done with you.

Thank you.

Two simple words seem insufficient, but it's all I have to offer.

Sincere thanks. :)

I thought I could negotiate them better than him any way.

Attorneys usually do this as a courtesy.... especially when they know that keeping 33% of someone's settlement leaves then with next to nothing.
