New to all of this and need some help

My husband was hit head on while driving to work Saturday morning. Other than being banged up there are no serious injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was passing cars going up a hill, when my husband saw there was a car in his lane he tried to hit the ditch but it happened to fast and they hit. It flipped his blazer and it is totalled. The driver of the other vehicle got out through the passenger side and got into another vehicle and took off. That afternoon the car was reported stolen, the car hasn't had insurance since June anyway so it will be going on our uninsured motorist. Progressive called yesterday and they are paying him for his lost time at work as well as pain and suffering. They told us they would pick up the Blazer yesterday so that it could be appraised but when I called today they still haven't gotten it. How long does it typically take them to get a check out? I was told by our rep that he would come to our home and give us the check so that we can sign the title over. I'm also wondering how much we can expect to get. It was a 1994 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer 4X4, all power with 208k miles. Thank you for any help/advice you can give!

It should take one day to inspect and another day to get the valuation. Add in a day or two to process that info and you are probably looking at 3 days... maybe four before an offer can be made. If you have UMPD, you need to ask for Loss of Use to be paid as well (if they are not already considering this by providing a rental). They will cut the Loss of Use payment off a few days after they make the _offer_... so be looking for another vehicle now.

Take a look at the NADA value on the vehicle to get a good idea of what the offer will be.

I'm sorry to hear about the accident. I'm glad to hear that your husband was basically okay.

Thank you! They are going to pay $20/day for loss of use. Hopefully I will get a call back tomorrow. Will NADA really be able to give me an idea on what I'll get? I've been trying not to look at any of that since they go by ACV. Thanks again for your help :o)

It will give you at least a general idea. The carrier may or may no use NADA but it's still pretty close.

ACV is what NADA reports... but there are different ways to obtain the ACV so they can differ.
