me and his mom is divorsed and she had him insured under he her policy but cancelled it after he turned 18 he has his own car but it is in my name and is insured wondering if he is covered to drive this car or do i need to contact insurance company

This statement is a non sequitur. If your son is an adult, but the car is in your name, then "he" does not "own" it, you do. As a result, you can be held liable for the operation of the vehicle without proper insurance coverage.
