Can a mortgage company make me hire a contractor to do repai

I filed a claim with my Insurance company, Of course the mortgage company's name is on the claim check. They had me go to their website download some forms that need to be filled out by the contractor I chose to do the repairs. I called them (Chase Home Finance) and asked if I could do the repairs my self ( It's roofing that I have 4 years experience doing ). They tell me I cannot do the repairs my self I "must" hire a contractor.
My question is: Is there any way to avoid (legally) having to hire a contractor?

Yes. This is my favorite type of question.

The best way to legally get around this is to make a roofing company. Go to your states secretary of state website and create an LLC. Usually this only costs around $100.00 and usually you have it done within 1 day. No attorney necessary. Then once you create the LLC, go to the IRS.GOV website and request an EIN for your new LLC. The LLC is a separate entity. The only other thing I would do is create a google voice number and register the number with google voice. If you want to go a step further, create a web site for your new roofing company with this phone number.

Its satisfies their demands for having a contractor do the work. Who is the bank to tell you that you can't hire your own company that you own?

As I understand it, they will sometimes require a licensed contract do the repairs. My guess is that this information is contained in your mortgage paperwork.
