Hi,
I'm looking for any ideas I'm not seeing. I have a leased car through Toyota Financial. I live in NH. My daughter took it to school with her in GA. She graduated in June and still has the car and it is still in my name and registered in NH.

The insurance company notified me that they will no longer carry insurance on her. She has to insure the car in GA. she can't register it there because she is not on the lease. I can't register it there because I live in NH.

Any suggestions?

Why can't you register is in GA? Call the local DMV in GA and find out how to do this.

I did call. I was told that I need to have a residence in GA to register the car. I don't. My daughter does, but her name isn't on the lease.

Consult an experienced agent to find an insurance for the leased car in GA and the procedures needed to have it.

Your daughter can obtain a NONOWNED AUTO policy to cover her when she drives your vehicle, whether it's registered in NH or GA. Any local agent in GA can assist her to obtain this coverage.

You could also talk to the leasing company about adding your daughter's name as one of the registered owners (I would recommend "John AND Mary" and not "John OR Mary" to prevent her from attempting to sell/trade the vehicle), which would permit her to register the vehicle in GA.

But, why don't you simply register the vehicle in GA using your daughter's address as yours? Or does your vehicle's leasing contract prevent you from registering it outside NH?

Aside from all this, why are you even leasing the vehicle?

If the company that will no longer cover her doesn't do business in NH and GA, check with an insurer that does business in both states. It's worth a shot.

Thanks for your thoughts....you gave me some things to think about and investigate.

And, Max....I am with you on the question of why I am leasing it in the first place!! Oy...I wish I had a good answer to that one!
