coverage under employers policy

I use my own vehicle to transport non emergency medical patients to appointments. I am covered under my employers auto policy that is under the company,s name. If I total my vehicle or am killed or injured by an uninsured driver this policy would pay my employer not me or my estate. Is this correct and are there any thoughts here?- thanks

Your auto policy is probably going to exclude coverage under the livery exclusion. You are acting as an agent for the company you work for and as such, they are responsible for (almost all of) your actions. So your employer would be responsible. As far as their policy... don't know. I've not seen it. I see no reason why it would not treat your as an insured up to it's policy limits.

They hired me as an independent contractor but anyway like you say they are still probably responsible for my actions. My cars VIN is listed on their policy so it is insured to the policy limits. My concern is who the policy pays and since the policy is in the name of the company and not me I,m wondering how I get made whole in a loss.

Are you sure your vehicle is listed with 1st party coverage (damage to your vehicle)? If it is, usually your employer would be paid and than they should pay you. I'd double check on 1st party coverage as usually this would be a liability policy only.

I was told that it was a full coverage policy with collision.
The thing is the owner asked that even if we arranged for our own commercial policy he wanted it payable to him. I don,t like this and my gut feeling tells me to proceed very cautiously and probably get out. I,m retired and only doing this to keep busy. Thanks for the response.
