I want to rent an SUV because I'll taking a trip up in the Appalachians. I have a driver's license. Do I need to have insurance for the car I'll be renting?

Um, yeah. Either your own or through the rental company.

There is something called non-owners auto insurance. You might want to look into that.

Keep in mind that a non-owners policy is for people who often drive vehicle's that they don't own.. not just a rental here and there.
