How to deal with bogus claim in car accident?

I live in California and had a fender bender accident in the parking lot. It was not really clear to me who was at fault but my insurance company told me that I am at fault since I was in the process of driving forward and backing up my car.

The other car (right front bumper) hit my car (rear right side) instead of my car hit the other car. So I still don't believe it is my fault.

Now he claim for bodily injury ($20K) and his passenger does the same ($25K). The claim does not make sense to me as both were fine and very healthy in this less than 5mph accident when it happened.

How do I deal with this situation? They submit an attorney letter for the claim to my insurance company. How can I check if their claim is valid?

What will happen is those people will claim a soft tissue injury and be directed to a doctor that will confirm this (based on the two people's statements) and state that the injury is related to the accident (meaning, the two people told the doctor they were fine before the accident but hurt afterwards). They then have enough information to present an injury claim ... like it or not. Unless you have an MD after your name and were treating those people, your thoughts about an injury won't trump a medical doctors. Welcome to the world of people wanting something for nothing.

Ironic thing... those that claim the other person was not hurt would probably do the exact same thing if they were not at fault in the accident.
