I had been driving my employer's vehicle with him beside me. Got into an accident on the highway, with the other car being totaled. How will it affect my insurance ?

Your insurance is based on your driving history, not the verhicle you are driving. Obviously, your insurance company will not find out about this until they do a record check on you, because the claim would have been paid by your employer's insurance company. But when they do, their impression of your driving talent will be altered and your cost of insurance will probably increase.

The only persons who may get a pass on their personal insurance under situations like this are law enforcement officers involved in on-duty collisions in the lawful performance of their duties.

You being the driver, the accident in all probability will show up on your records. Your rates are influenced by your records. You do the rest of the maths.
