Uninsured 20-year old still living at home

My 20-year old son, who lives with us, let his auto insurance lapse. Would we be responsible in any way if he continues to drive and has an accident?

Driving without insurance is against the law. He should either go for a reinstatement or be listed under your policy to stay covered.

Sure . . . the kid is going to listen to Mom and Dad? LOL!

Depending on the state, Mom and Dad could be held responsible, even for the seemingly adult 20-year old, if they are furnishing 50% or more of his support and claiming him as a "dependent" on their income tax returns. And . . . what about when he drives Mom's car because he has no gas in his own?

The "child" needs to (1) obtain his own auto insurance, or (2) be covered under someone else's policy, or (3) be kicked out of the house (like the proverbial baby bird being kicked out of the nest) to figure out how to live and deal with life as an adult, where he will be forced to bear responsibility for his own acts and failures to act.
