Depends on the state. About 7 or 8 states modify how you can collect if you don't have any insurance.

You are always entitled to your specific damages: the cost to repair/replace damaged property (subject to Actual Cash Value determinations), and the amount of any medical expenses not covered by other insurance, plus any other direct losses, such as lost income while recovering from a disability caused by the collision (but not overtime, bonuses, or commissions based on speculative factors).

You will probably not be entitled to "general damages" such as pain and suffering, loss of consortium, etc.

The other party will be held liable for the damages and will have to pay for the damages. As for you being the illegal driver, you'll have to face the consequences, pay the penalty and all.

Lots of conditions apply as well.
Which state you're in and whether it's a no-fault state?
Does the other party has insurance?
Is his/her coverage limits enough to pay for the damages?
Did you disclose that you're uninsured? (am not saying that's right, but I have seen people doing it all the time)
