Rates Doubled !!

I have been driving for 40 years. No tickets or accidents since 1995, until a few months ago. A taxi hit me in 1995.

A few months ago I backed up hitting my neighbors car which was in the street.
No damage to my 20 year old Thunderbird. Only $700.00 damage to my neighbors car which my insurance covered. I was not ticketed for the accident.

Now my insurance company that I have been with for years has doubled my rates.

I thought my insurance would go up slightly but NOT doubled.

Every year since being with this company my insurance has gone up a dollar or 2.. When I called them in the past and asked why my insurance went up with no tickets or accidents, I was told it was an across the board increase. Everybody's insurance went up.

This should NOT be allowed to double someones rates because of a $700.00 claim.

Any suggestions ? Thanks

Call your agent and see what they can do. If it's an admitted carrier then they need to have approval from the state as to what rates can be set at. If you think it's too much you can always change carriers.

That, and you can file a complaint with the State Dept of Insurance. They would have to explain the reason for such a steep increase if what you say is accurate.
