I need to rent a car once or twice a year. What is the cheapest way to buy insurance for rental car driving?

Obtaining the rental stores insurance.

Cheap rental car insurance is simply a scam. Check this: http://consumerist.com/2007/03/13/9-confessions-from-a-former-enterprise-rental-salesman/

If you have liability insurance with collision and comprehensive coverage added, you have all the coverage you need when driving a rental vehicle. If you don't have any auto insurance, then follow tcope's advice.

MangoQurious' answer was not entirely true, and you may find some value in his suggested reading. A person who has no insurance should not drive a rental vehicle without some form of coverage, even if he/she pays an exorbitant rate.

Yeah Max! I agree! Some kind of coverage is mandatory even if driving a rental vehicle.

That url from Consumerist was just for some pleasure reading. :)
