how can i add my father-in-law to my health insurance? would

my father in law lives with my wife and me, he's 63 yrs.old and requires medical attention often, is there ant way i can add him to my insurance since we take care of him in our home, would having power of attorney work?

If you are providing more than 50% of your father-in-law's annual support, there is a provision in the IRC that permits you to count him as a dependent "relative", increasing your household size by one person, and obtaining insurance for him. Power of attorney is not necessary, but you will have to wait for 2015 open enrollment coming November 15, 2014, with coverage beginning January 1, 2015.

When he turns 65, he can enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan, which may be available with $0 premium in your area.
