]Water damage to my manufactured home
This article is in the wrong forum. It should be under homes and not auto?)

On December 23rd, 2014, I woke up at 4:30 am to a loud sound from the kitchen. I went to see what was going on, and water was spraying out from under my sink from a broken pipe.

I called my insurance man, and he had a company that they use for water damage come to my home, and hook up 4-5 machines to dry out my kitchen flooring.

I was told by the company doing the work that I should have All my counters replaced. I did not understand the deductible, and that was a great concern to me, as I had no way of paying $500 deductible, and still having the work done. All of my counters did not need replaced. The flooring under the kitchen sink needed to be repaired.

The repair company that did the work were total idiots. I had 5 men checking on the machines in my home at one time. I felt like this must be their break room place. I told my insurance man this, as I feel the company I was insured with was being billed for more man power, etc.,.

I was told I would have to leave my house for up to 30 or more days for all the counters to be replaced. I don't like motels that much, unless they are very clean! There are none in Roseburg, OR, that are clean like I would like that I know of? My insurance man told me, as I asked him, what would be done if I did have the counters replaced. He told me I would be given a grocery allotment for food. For the first 8 days I could not even get into my kitchen with all the men that were here working. Also, the stove was unhooked, as they were drying the floor out in the kitchen.

It took over 30-35 days for the repairs to be completed. I chose to pay other contractors to do work, as I did not like the way the work was being done by the company my insurance company had doing the work.

They cut my heater vent in my kitchen, as it had water in it. I had spent at least 2 hours soaking up water in towels, and then wringing the towels out to get rid of the water in the heater vent. I told the worker's that the heater vent needed to be shop vacumed out. They said they would take care of it. At the end of the project I checked the heater vent. There was still standing water in the vent. I again told the repair company to please get the water out of my heater vents. Their solution was to cut my heater vent! Absolutely Stupid! Also, they cut the thick plastic underneath my manufactured home to let the water out that had drained down under my home onto the thick plastic. I told them this was ridiculous too!

I had a lady from a reputable company in Roseburg come out to look at the work that had been completed so far. She took pictures of what had been done by this repair company. She told me the work they done was shoddy, and that they have a bad reputation for shoddy work. She is an expert at repairs, and estimating costs, and getting homes repaired correctly. I trusted her opinion 100%. She could not believe they had cut the heater vent in my kitchen! I told her I was upset about it very much, as now my heat was going outside!

In the last 10 days I started smelling the strong smell of mold. It was coming from underneath my sink in my kitchen. When I checked under the sink, I had mold growing underneath my kitchen sink. I called my insurance man, and he told me to take pictures of the mold growing, and send it to him, which I did.

The repair company that did the work(shoddy work) came out 2x. The first time they looked at the mold, and took pictures of under the sink and the mold. The 2nd time was yesterday, and there was 2 men that came to my place. They told me that they could not repair the rotten flooring under the sink or the mold, as I had not gotten all new counters put in like they told me too. I told them, I would not have wanted them to do the work anyway, as I feel they did work that was inferior, and I would never have trusted their worker's to be in my home without me at my home for over 30 days! I told them their workers looked like scruffy, dirty, drug addicts, and they needed to address this problem. I also told them I would never have them EVER do any work for me, as I was not happy with the work they did at all! (They were upset at me that I chose not to have them do the extra work that needed done, and I hired contractors to come in and put down new flooring in my kitchen and also new rugs in my living room and hall. The living room and hall was not that damaged with water, but I did purchase remnants from a local carpet place, and had carpet put in by the carpet company(not the company my insurance hired to do the work) They did want to put my flooring in, and also put in the carpet if I chose to have the carpet replaced. I went instead with installer's from the carpet factory I purchased the vinyl & carpet from.

What do I do now?

Any/All help suggestions is greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Valerie K. Johnson

This is the first home I have owned a home. I do have insurance. I have paid for insurance from the day I purchased my home, which was 4 years ago this summer.
