My son Tim would be attending a school in Louisiana which is some 100 miles away from our home. He's 18. My daughter Stella, 21, would be going to another school is Texus. They both would be taking cars to college next year. Now, May I get them insured as part of our household ?

yes, its pretty much possible for you to maintain possession of the vehicle as part of your household since he's a student n stays in Louisiana. In doing so you'd be able to maintain his insurance with your company as also restrict the cost of insurance within a certain level. Since I'm not so aware of all the rules applicable in Tx, thats why probably need time to predict nything abt your daughter.

Hi, I'm from texas and can only tell you that the insurance for your daughter might pose some problem if the insurance co. makes it that way. They have a license to carry on their services thru Tx. Now, since your daughter proved to be good at driving, so she would be able to maintain her insurance with that company, but her car won't be counted anymore for the multi-car discount that applies on your family cars. Rest assured, John Hopkins

hey, be sure that incase your children stay with the existing insurance co. then also they would need to expend the same rate which has been fixed for their respective places. This is more applicable to your daughter since she would be moving out of state.

If she decides to cancel and apply for another one she needs to also maintain a continous coverage. Do I sound quite clear !
take care, fatman

As long as both children claim and retain full time residence with you all will be fine. If they do this you can have both children under your policy as usual. If your Daughter claims full time residence in TX then she will have to come off your policy and purchase a new on in TX. For your some if he is living in appts or dorms while as a student he can be full time resident in your home thus fallling under your auto policy. Once he files full time residence outside your home he should have his own policy. The other bonus of having both of them under your policy and as students should get a student discount if applies in your state...I'm in PA.
