Hi..Lemme just tell you over here, that whenever you get to buy a car you'd surely avail the original warranty that comes along with it. This is usually applicable for three years & have a limit of 36,000 miles.
Well,, this may also vary as per the terms of your manufacturer. Some may offer you a longer mileage or period. This could also get apportioned as per the different parts of the body of your vehicle. But for that matter you have to study a lot before opting it out. Hope this goes well with you, fatman

Well, I must inform you that the original warranty period as is mentioned by Fatman is absolutely alright. Following this period your car won't covered for any mechanical hazard or retarding functionality. Since then, you'd need to provide for it from your own pocket which might just rise up to a hundred dollar on an hourly basis!
In order to avoid such consequences you may always opt for something called the Used Car Warranties which would guide you from any unforeseen hazards just as the probability of such hazards increase with the passing years. So you can always imagine how this would effect your paying or not paying huge amounts worth of repairs.
