Hi
In many states this thing happens, once the kids reach to a certain age, they lose their parent's health coverage. Then you need to buy separate health insurance for them. It is wise to have them covered because medical costs are rising steeply. College Student Health Care Plan is a good idea.

Colleges offer subsidized health plans for their students which can save money for you. Caution! The premium rate may vary with the market, with the benefits and even with the state laws. Therefore, you may end up with a wide range of premium quotations.

However, the benefits offered by the plan may vary among the colleges. The college health plan will cover 100% of the medical costs if the student visits the college health center. Otherwise, it may only offer partial coverage if he/she chooses to visit a doctor outside-the-network.

Hope this information will help you to make the proper decision.

Regards,
Juanita

Hi there … at times we need to think beyond our monetary gains, more importantly when it involves our near and dear ones. The college health care plan may not be enough comprehensive as your personal health care plan, but it often makes a good sense to have your kids covered under a health plan when they are away from home. It will cover your children if they suffer any serious injury or illness. A typical college health care plan often limits its coverages to the preventive cares only but the students can avail free medical services from the college health care center. Anyways, before signing the policy documents keep in mind the followings-

  • What are the diseases covered under the health plan?
  • What are the pre-existing conditions?
  • Will the policy cover your child when he/she is in summer vacation or any other vacation?
  • Does it include Mental Illness and Drug Abuses?
  • Does the college health center operate efficiently and effectively? Is it well stuffed?

Hello Rammy,
I'll definitely vote for the college health care plan. Fatman has rightly said they are often not as good as the private medical plans but they will keep the worries off you.

Take care

Hai

I am jeliffie. New to this site. In my opinion, it is better to buy college student health insurance plan. Because in some countries, health coverage did not fit for their childrens after they reached certain age. I think it will be very useful if your daughter move away from home, then she should buy some Travel Medical insurance. In order to avoid such a risk, just buy for her. Remember to ask the quotations for premium of student health insurance plans.

Thank you

Naturally the benefits will depend on the policy and the plan.
I am not an insurance agent or consultant, but based on my knowledge on insurance law, I can say that health insurance does not extend to the beneficiaries or dependents unless during the lifetime or term of the policy and the insured was not able to use it, then probably the beneficiary may use it. However, again that depends to the policy of the insurance or if the insurance company allows it.

For examble, life insurance definitely extends to the beneficiaries as long as the beneficiary has an insurable interest to the insured or if it was not revoked.
Health insurance naturally does not have such knd of term.
