Hi everyone :)

I am new to this forum and i hope you guys can help me pick the right insurance for me.

Let me start:

I have a 3 cars

- Audi a6 avant (2.8 liter) 1999
- Audi a4 sedan (1.8turbo) 2005 (salvage title- rebuilt) (It was theft)
- Hyundai Excel (1.4) 1996

And there are 3 drivers :

- Me 18 years old i got my license about 5 months ago. I am going to drive audi a6 avant and then switch to a4 sedan.

- My mom she uses hyundai Excel to go to work. But she is going to use a4 as well.

- My dad he is going to drive audi a6.

My current Insurance:

- Audi a4 sedan is not registered yet so its not added to current policy.
- Only my mom and my dad are added to policy.
- Audi a6 avant and Hyundai excel.
- The insurance company is "Progressive"

My problems with current insurance:

- We are paying way to much for only 2 cars.
- If i am added to policy we would be being much much more.

So the real issue is money.

New insurance requirments:

- Audi a6 and Audi a4 insured in both ways meaning (For exmaple if I am driving and i hit a tree or something we will still get money back or if a tree falls on my car etc.)

-Hyundai just in one way so that if the person driving hits other car then the person hit gets money from our insurance.

- Not so pricey when teenage driver is added to policy.

EXTRA INFO

- We live in CT
- We came to USA about 3 years ago.
- My parents use to drive since they were 18. But they made U.S license about 3 years ago.

Thank you and i hope you understand what i wrote.
Sorry for my English.

Hello Silverusa, welcome on board and Merry Christmas!!

Introducing the teenage driver to the auto policy will definitely hike its rate. And, sorry, there is no short-cut to avoid the price change. But the following waysmay help you to control it to some extent.

Normally the cost of including the teenage girl to the auto policy is not maddening high like including a boy. The premium for a teenage male driver is much higher than that of the young female driver (though I'm not sure if you are a girl, just guessed it from your screen name).

There are discounts available for good grades. And it is available with most of the insurer. If you can manage to maintain good grades through-out your educational career, your parents can enjoy some discounts for it.

Try to manage a separate policy for you. When you have the license on your name you may not face problems in obtaining a personal auto policy. Do a bit of research yourself, to check out the prices. Shopping around helps most of the time if not always.

You can also ask your family to purchase you a policy for the cheapest car amongst the three. Dropping the collision and comprehensive coverage on the car is also a good idea if the car is sufficiently old.

These are some cost saving tips…..hope these help. Please feel free to let us know if we can be of any further assistance.

Warm regards,
Carol

Good morning Silverusa, welcome to the community and Merry Christmas (sorry if you don't participate in Christmas no insult intended)...

Carol has given you some pretty good advise...I would also like to add two things...first...clearly you are computer literate as you found the be site on the web for insurance answers! Check some of the larger companies most will source not only their rates but the rates of their biggest competitors even if lower! THAT is a huge consumer boom..
secondly, I wouldn't carry anything but liablity on the hyundai, frankly it's worth about 1600.00 on a good day maybe 2k...I'll assume you meant elantra instead of excel, don't think they make a model called excel that I'm aware...now I dont' mean lowest limits on this one re: liablity carry atleast 100/300 but I wouldn't have collision and comp on that vehicle and that is the vehicle YOU should be rated on....

Let us know how your search progresses, be sure to always compare apples to apples (same coverages/limits/deductibles)....

What a nice son or daughter you are to help your parents by trying to save money! I'm impressed!

Thank you and i hope you understand what i wrote.
Sorry for my English.

I found your English very well written, where did you and your family immigrant from?

I am a boy thats just a random nickname.

We came from Poland and i am moving back after 2 years.

And i have a question :

- When you add a car to policy does it matter who is driving a car ?
Lets say i am driving a audi a6 and i am not added as the person who drives that car and lets say I crash into tree do i still get money back ?

I am just look for the cheapest short term way because i am not going to stay in this country.

- I have good grades mostly A's and B's and i am taking honors and advanced placement classes.

Do you guys recommend any Insurance Companys ?

Thank you for helping me out.

Welcome to the forums, Why don't your parents put the cars in their names and get the insurance, it would be alot cheaper and they could add you as a driver, sounds like you guys have a really good relationship and you sound like a responsible young man. Premiums would be alot cheaper if the cars were in there names.

Thats what we wanna do.

Cars are going to be on their names and i am just going to be added as a driver.

But i bet it will still be very expensive if i am added to Audi a6 or Audi a4.

And when i called "Progressive" they said if i am only added as a driver and lets say i crash into tray the insurance will not get money back. Is that true ?

Whats the name of insurance that covers accidents without involvement of other vehicles ?

I need to get to know all that stuff before we go and look around for new insurance company.

Thanks

Hello silverusa !! The auto insurance is purchased for the car but it covers the driver. The important details about the car will be mentioned in the policy for the easy identification of the vehicle, but the benefits will apply to the driver.

- When you add a car to policy does it matter who is driving a car ?

Lemme put an example before you: if you hit another car and injure the people riding it, you'll then be the person responsible for the damages and not the car. The policy paper guarantees your financial liability. Therefore, the name of the driver needs to be included in the policy, otherwise the insurer may deny paying out the claim.

Hope it will clear some doubts from your mind. If you start driving your parent's car regularly ask them to put you in their policy right away.

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas :D.

Hi

Whats the name of insurance that covers accidents without involvement of other vehicles ?

I think I might just be able to help you that. The name if the policy that you're seeking is called a comprehensive coverage. This is a policy that would almost cover you for all damages which are not associated with traffic. Accidents that are associated with other cars or damages which are associated with road-side direction signs are not covered by the comprehensive coverage. Rather, if it is an accident in which the driver has encountered an animal would be covered by the comprehensive coverage.

So my friend, you may understand easily that comprehensive policies are basically aimed at covering those damages which may seem uncontrollable under normal circumstances.

Suppose, your car has undergone some damages due to some hooliganism & you see that one of the valuable contents are missing...now in this case the lost thing would not be covered under the comprehensive coverage while your car is covered. Hope my message is quite clear to all !

Thanks & regards to all of you!

OP, here is what I think you need to do....YOU will have to be a listed driver on one of these cars...MAKE IT THE HYUNDAI...I think you should get your states required COVERAGES ONLY, but with HIGHER LIMITS..on that car with you named as the PRINCIPLE DRIVER (on the hyundai)...for instantance 100/300 bodily injury coverage, 100/300 Uninsured motorist coverage, and 100k property damage coverage on the hyundai with you as the principle driver...no collision and no comp...because that car is worth 2k on a good day...remember if you hit an animal or slide down a hill (no other vehicle's FAULT) there will be no coverage on THAT vehicle...but as I said it's not worth much..

The other two vehicle have same coverages above, PLUS collision and comprehensive with at least 500 deductibles...Don't buy any extras, other than what your state requires.

All the policys in mom and dads name, but you listed as principle driver on the hyundai, you will then still be able to drive the other vehicle but you are RATED on the less expensive policy of the three.

If anyone brings up the work ''EXCLUDED'' or excluding you as a driver on the other cars, you DO NOT want to do that.

The way I have this laid out is the cheapest way for you all to insure these vehicles (as far as I know)...

And when i called "Progressive" they said if i am only added as a driver and lets say i crash into tray the insurance will not get money back. Is that true ?

Sorry honey your english broke up on this one, I'm not sure what you mean by this statement please explain it a little better...

Whats the name of insurance that covers accidents without involvement of other vehicles ?

It could/would be collision or comprehensive COVERAGE not policy..BOTH coverages can pertain to one vehicle accidents.

Let us know if you have any other questions...and how this turns out..oh, and explain that progressive statement again please.

Hehe.

Wow this so confusing for me ...

All the policys in mom and dads name, but you listed as principle driver on the hyundai, you will then still be able to drive the other vehicle but you are RATED on the less expensive policy of the three.

Could you explain this more ? So if i am the principle driver on the hyundai (meaning i am the main driver ?)
I would still be able to drive Audi a4 ? and lets say crash it into tree ?

And does salvage title affects the insurance in anyway ?

Thanks
