how do i find out if father had life insurance. befire he died he siad he did

Is anything specified in the will? Do you know if he had a financial advisor, insurance agent, banker, etc? It can be very difficult to find a policy. Hopefully, you are listed as a beneficiary along with your name and social security number. You would be contacted by the insurance company, but this is not always the case. I would suggest looking through his paperwork and seeing if you can find any policies. You can also look through old bank statements and copies of checks to see who he has been paying a premium to. The best place to try and find whether a person was covered under a life policy would be MIB, formerly known as the "Medical Information Bureau." They have records on over 170 million policies.
