In most ever state the vehicle needs to have at least liability insurance in order to be used on public roads. Are you wanting to add the person and not insure the vehicle? The person would then be driving an uninsured owned vehicle and the claim would probably be denied.

the state has specific laws about this and insurance is something i thought you understood from the discussion we had. Cutting corners will only cause you more problems legially and personally.

Rhonda - You can add a nonrelative to your vehicle insurance policy. It is not neccessary to add a nonrelative to your policy if they do not have regular access to your vehicles.

However you can not add a nonrelative to your auto policy to cover their vehicle. Most reputable companies will not allow you to insure a vehicle that you do not have insurable interest in (ownership). There are some companies that allow you to insure nonowned vehicles but I would not recommend those companies.

By adding someone to your policy along with their vehicles opens you up to a liability exposure. So if they have a bad driving record your rates may increase. If they have and accident a claim will be filed against your policy.

It is a big red flag when someone can not insure themselves and there vehicle. It just shows a lack of responsibility. Your nonrelative should obtain there own policy so that they will be responsible for there actions alone.
