the repair cost more than what i owe. can the insurance just pay off my note

Usually they will pay no more then the value of the vehicle. Your contract with the lien holder is between you and the lien holder. GAP insurance addresses the difference (if you have it).

If you are saying INSTEAD of repairing the vehicle can you just pay off the note, and then dispose of or repair your vehicle on you own (NOT considered a total loss by the carrier), then the answer is yes....Just tell them that's what you want to do..
