MY HUSBAND BECAME BLIND WITH RETINITIS PIGMENTOSA IN BOTH EYES WHEN HE WAS 43 YEARS OLD. HE HAD GOOD VISION FOR YEARS AND ONE DAY HE WAS BLIND. HE HAD TO APPLY FOR DISABILITY FROM SOCIAL SECURITY.SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY GIVE TO HIM ONLY 643,00 A MONTH.
MY HUSBAND HAVE NOT INSURANCE WHEN HE BECAME BLIND.
MY FAMILY UNTIL TODAY HELP US TO PAY THE BILLS HERE.
MY HUSBAND WRITE AND SPEAKS ENGLISH VERY WELL AND HE
USED TO MAKE MORE THAN A 1000,00 FOR WEEK IN THE PAST.
I THINK IS NECESSARY TO THINK IN THE FUTURE BECAUSE THE PRESENT BECAME PAST AND TODAY IS THE BEST TIME TO THINK IN THE FUTURE WITH DISABILITY INSURANCE BECAUSE IS SAFE.
THE GOVERNMENT IS NOT GIVEN ENOUGH MONEY TO DISABILITY PEOPLE.
BELIEVE ME OR NOT JUST 6 MONTHS AGO THEY CANCELED OUR FOOD STAMPS HERE.
I DONT WORK ANYMORE BECAUSE I HAD TO TAKE CARE OF MY HUSBAND(BLIND AND VERY MENTALLY ILL) AND I THINK EVERY DAY AND NIGHT HERE THAT IF MY FAMILY DIDNT HELP US...
ANOTHER THING THAT I'M VERY HAPPY IS BECAUSE I HAD FOUND
SO MANY FANTASTIC PEOPLE HERE.THESE PEOPLE ARE ANGELS.
THANKS GOD!!!

And don't forget your SS!

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) is one of the three basic protections provided by Social Security. The other two are Old Age Insurance and Survivors Insurance (OASI).

When a worker's earnings are stopped or reduced for a year or more because of a severe impairment, the worker and eligible family members can receive monthly cash benefits from SSDI. Such disability coverage benefits continue until the individual dies or is able to work again.

The Social Security definition of disability is very strict. Workers are considered disabled if they cannot do any work in the economy because of their medical condition(s). The disability and the inability to work must last or be expected to last for at least a year or result in death.

Each of 144.2 million workers and their employers pays 6.2 percent of the worker's wages, up to the taxable maximum ($87,000 in 2003) into OASDI. Another 14.6 million self-employed workers pay 12.4 percent (6.2 percent as employer and 6.2 percent as employee).1 Of the 12.4 percent:

1.88 percent is directed to SSDI;
10.52 percent is directed to OASI.

Wow Ohio you never seem to quit impressing me!! How do you know all these figures? I think social security has got to be strict. I can not tell you or count on on e hand the people I know of that collect these benefits who can actually work and do so under the table. This is a very sore subject and the top of my pet peeve list. Is it any wonder that when those of us who work won't have anything left when we need it. To clarify one things that later wasn.t intended towards TSACGIV...I was just venting.

SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH FRIENDS AND THANKS FOR ALL FANTASTIC INFORMATION HERE.
I THINK SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY IS NOT ENOUGH FOR A PERSON TO SURVIVE AND I'M SURE IF MY HUSBAND HAVE ANOTHER TYPE OF INSURANCE WAS A LOT BETTER FOR US.
I THINK IS GREAT INSURANCE FORUM HERE.
PLEASE DO NOT BELIEVE THAT ONLY SOCIAL SECURITY IS ENOUGH FOR YOU.
SAVE MONEY IN THE BANK FOR YOUR FUTURE BE BETTER.
BY A INSURANCE EXTRA FOR A BETTER LIFE TOMORROW.
MY HUSBAND HAVE BOTH SOCIAL SECURITY AND IS ONLY 643,00 A MONTH.

I feel for you..believe me. My father is on social security and I know of some older folks who are. With the economy and the rising prices they are lucky to survive. I really hoppe whatever new president gets office helps clean up the economic mess we are in.

I'm 50 and our projected SS income is about $45,000 per year. I'll be happy if I see half of that.
