I'd be surprised if they didn't. They may consider this a 'pre-exsisting condition' however. I'm sure another contributor with more experience in health insurance will come along and help out. You don't say if this is a policy with your employer (I think they are required to take you), or a private policy you might want to post that, or any other additional info. :D

Welcome to the forums by the way and glad you stopped by !

Most likely, it is covered under the health plans. Many health insurance providers may offer coverage for ‘anxiety disorder' under their health insurance plans. You can check out with the local insurer. Moreover, anxiety disorder is supposedly to be covered under HMO plans too.

Local government often upholds low cost mental health care centers, where you can receive treatments at subsidized rates. This might also come handy for you.

Hope the inputs helps.

Take care,
Juanita

Hi shaky, you also haven't mentioned whether you qualify for state sponsored health care programs or not. There is a possibility that you will be covered for the disease if you receive health care through Medicaid plan.

They may take you, but rest assured there will be a waiting period for any pre-existing condition. Usually it is 6 months, but some are as long as 12.

I dealt with this with my son, who has anxiety. Those who would take him- the premium was out of this world.

Here in my state, if you take antidepressants, the insurance carriers consider you a suicide risk-don't know why. I told them that if my son didn't take them he certainly was a suicide risk, not if he was on them!

This was through an employer program. I have heart problems, and have had malignant skin cancer in the past- they don't consider these as much of a risk as they do antidepressants- go figure!

My son is now on Medicare for his anxiety disorder, as well as OCD, and list of others. If you haven't checked into this, please do..Good Luck--Keep us posted..KAren
