Life insurance means buying lifetime financial security for your loved ones. It is an agreement between you and a life insurance company in which the names of one or more beneficiaries (recipient) are mentioned. If you are insured, the beneficiaries will get financial help from the insurance company, upon your death.
The people involved in the policy are:
• The insured person.
• His/her spouse, parents, children or whoever is financially dependent on him/her and whose name is mentioned in the policy as a beneficiary.
• The insurance company.

Life insurance is the protection against the death of an individual in the form of a payment to a beneficiary, usually a family member.

For example, a husband would buy a term life insurance policy for a 20 year period with coverage of $100,000.

The husband names his wife as the primary beneficiary of the life insurance policy.

Suppose the husband dies after three years - the wife would receive the life insurance proceeds of $100,000.

Life insurance policy proceeds are usually paid free of federal income tax, unless the estate of the insured is the beneficiary of the life insurance policy.

great information from both of you, thank you for this information. Many people look over life insurance and don't think it is important. It is the loved ones that are left behind that suffer the financial burden and in time of death, the extra cost of a funeral and burial and as a married couple that has joint bills, you loved ones can be devastated, especially if you are the main bread winner.
great post you two, thank you for the information.

I too agree with you erb, some people don't think about this until it is too late, if you think about it though, how many of us think about dying?

I don't know if you are looking for a web site to get information about life insurance or to actually buy life insurance.

Personally, I think iii.org is the best source of information on the internet for insurance related topics. I hope that will change very soon.

As far as actually purchasing life insurance, I think the internet is absolutely the worst place to buy any type of insurance.

We have had several threads on this subject, but I don't know how to find them.

If I am buying a product that I will be depending on to take care of my family when I'm gone, I want to look the salesperson right in the eye.

There are several good websites that provide information on life insurance.

Make sure to take your time, review articles, tips, and information comparing plans.

Also, it may help to request further information, or answers to any questions you have by contacting the website or a local professional life insurance agent before buying your life insurance policy.

Here's a list of some good life insurance websites:

Insure.com
Insweb.com
Insurance.com
Lifeinsure.com
AccuQuotes.com
Efinancial.com
III.org

These sites have very good information, article directories, and some have tutorials on life insurance.

Good luck to you.

sdchargersfan, what exactly do you want this website to do? Do you want to buy something? Learn more about life insurance? Learn how life insurance is misrepresented?

Have you seen the Life Insurance Guide section yet? I put a ton of work into that and am pretty impressed with it (it doesn't take much to impress me).

If you have any more questions, send up a flag.

Hi Investigator,

I just happened to see your life insurance guide section and I must say there is a lot of good information in there. I am sure it will turn out to be an excellent resource for the community.

Great work once again.

Thanks,
Evan
