I was there in the war in Afganistan and currently a veteran and on top of that, disabled. It's about 14 months now from the date I retired. But I've not started receiving any benefits from the Department of Veteran Affairs. What should I do?

Did you get a medical proof establishing your disability? If not, then you should get that at once. Moreover, what is the date of your separation from the military service? This is because it is a factor that'll be considered by the VA department to determine your entitlement date.

It'll be best for you to contact VA's regional benefits office in order to find out the reason for the delay in disbursing your benefits.

If your disability is service connected and was determined prior to separation from active duty, your benefit should have begun a long time ago. Contact the VA directly at 1-800-827-1000

Like Max said but really it all depends on when you filed your claim if you where Active Duty when the claim was first submitted meaning 6+ months prior to your EAOS your Disability rating and payment are started the day you leave the service meaning the day you get your DD214 however if it submitted with less then 6- months left till EAOS then usually it takes about 18-24 months if like myself ( 90% over all disability rating ) it can take in excess of 2 years from the date it is filed ( depending on the backlog ) However the VA will back pay you from the date the claim was first filed but also keep in mind C&P may want to see you (several times) as well before they make you final overall rating meaning what your total disability % is
