I'm living in South Dakota, changing careers and wondering if the insurance industry is the place to be?? I've got a degree in healthcare administration so was leaning toward the healthcare insurance aspect.

I will only say that most jobs in insurance health care are more insurance then health care. I would say the real question is where you want to be.

Do you intent to become an agent? You're required obtain the license to sell insurance policies in your area. Check out with the state insurance department website for the licensing classes. Also you can check out with the insurance companies, they too may hire you and put you in the licensing process.

Best of luck!!

Also in what capacity? What is the job or position you are looking for? Also I would be willing to bet that a large hospital administrator, or even the adm assistant will make a WHOLE lot more than anything you find in the health insurance field (leaving out of course top top managment)...

Hey, at the entry level a health insurance agent may be able to draw a paycheck of $30,000 to $40,000 depending upon his performance and type of employment.

However, I'm in unison with the other members suggestions, changing the job profile may not always solve the problems for you, but if you're truly interested in the field of insurance you can start off a part-timer.
