What can i do if the repair shop made repairs without author

by gngr78us » Thu Nov 13, 2008 07:07 pm

I was rear ended and my car was not driveable. the insurance company towed it to to the place of my choice for the estimate, and i was told that i would have to sign authorization for it to get fixed. i found out there was damage to the "frame". therefore i decided to have if fixed at toyota. come to find out the repair shop has already did two days of work on it without me or the insurance company authorizing the work. with that said no one will work on the car since they have started work. what should i do in this situation. if i understand everything right, its against the law to do any work not authorized

Fred,

I wonder what happened to the Insurance Company warranty on that repair??

Where does it say her brother took it to a 'preferred' or shop that the carrier warranted the repairs? I don't see that information..

Shouldn't the insurer have stepped in and picked up the tab until the auto was repaired correctly or replaced the automobile if it could not be repaired correctly??

AB-SO-FREAKIN' LUTELY if it were repaired at a shop that ins. carrier warranted, I've done so myself a few times, and of course goes without saying that the damage be loss related.

We will need to wait for Fireyone to clarify.

Until then, being that She thought she was required to use a Program Shop, and many, many other insured's are of the opinion they are required... it seems likely her brother would also.

I could be wrong...... It wouldn't be the first time.

I had a new vehicle that was rearended and shove me into another, made me into an accordian. Frame was bent, they sent it to a frame shop and fixed it. I live in Pennsylvania, the garage I went to was and is one that I trust to know the law around the insurance policy. He does alot of this type of work. So I don't think that statement that that is the law is correct.

It's not correct Good natured...at all...

good point fred, about her thinking that she HAD to go to a specific shop...could be and if so, then yes, he should've brought this to the carriers attention, if he didn't and they should've been right in the middle of getting this vehicle taken care of...period..
