Do Geico roadside assistance claims affect premiums?

by CrazedEpidemic » Tue Nov 25, 2008 08:01 am

I am currently with geico and I have geico roadside assistance and mechanical breakdown w/ a $250 deductible. If I use these services will my rates have a possibility of increasing. I spoke with someone from geico but he didnt seem to know, he just told me any claim can affect my premium.

Then I added the mechanical breakdown w/ a $250 deductible for about $16/6 months.

The mechanical breakdown coverage needs to be authorized by geico and I would have to pay a $250 for each problem if they aren't related. Its basically an extended warranty for my car.

If that's the case, normal/excessive usage of the protection will not have any effect on other components of your coverage. It could raise the cost of this protection or, more likely, result in the loss of the mechanical breakdown coverage because of too many claims.

A $250 deductible is steep, but that's why you only pay $16 for 6 months. Protection such as this, remember is not going to cover routine maintenance such as brakes, shock absorbers, or other wear-and-tear events, but catastrophic events such as timing belts, water pumps, and electronic controls.

Claims wont always affect premiums. Geico would review and always consider all the different factors, to make sure that their customers would always enjoy the maximum savings they can offer. I had been a geico customer for years and I recommend them.

You guys are talking about two different type coverages one is emergency road side service or ERS and has NO deductible at all and is a 100 mile tow with lockout service , out of gas service and flat repair etc...up to $100 allowance for a locksmith also. The other service is MBI or mechanical breakdown service which comes with a 250 deductible and can only be offered on new vehicles under 15000 miles and original owner of car. This is like a wrap around warranty up to 7yrs or 100,000 and is a great warranty and is what your car dealer Finance department does not want you to know about so you buy there expensive Ex. Warranty. It cost 30 dollars a year and kicks in after your cars basic warranty expires. Call a Geico local agent in your area and they will explain, like I did. Use the local agent as it is the same exact rate and they take there time with you and are always there in the community with the same agent. They don't put offices everywhere but look and you will find one within 45 min of your house.
