I am an insurance agent in the US, but was asked to supply insurance for a canadian resident with no prior insurance that is purchasing a vehicle in the US and driving it back to canada. Any suggestions for this individual.

The person should obtain Canadian insurance that will extend into the US (I'm guessing most will).

If what Tcope has said is right you may need to ask the client to check with his present insurer. His insurer may extend the coverage to him while he would drive the car from US to Canada.

I think differnt country has different insurance policy. Cause the working reason i met two country policy. For example. In Mexico drivers must have a Mexican insurance policy from a company authorized to do business in Mexico to cover damages or injuries.
U.S liability insurance is simply not valid in Mexico. That even includes most of the major U.S. collision and comprehensive coverage plans.
In addition to the required Mexican auto insurance, you should also consider a plan that covers legal aid and bond fees.
In Mexico, it is considered a felony to have a traffic accident, While the police are investigating who is at fault, your vehicle may be impounded and you will be detained by Mexican authorities.
So i thiink you should find some informataion about canada and choose the right policy to add it in.

All USA issued policys that I've ever read extend to Canda, but it's never a bad idea to check. Mexico? I personally wouldn't drive there period Wink
