at odds over CCC valuation

by spider1az » Tue Aug 12, 2008 05:32 am

Hi, my husband was hit last week and the other driver was at fault, our car was totaled and we are at odds over the ACV of our car with the insurance co. it's a 2005 Mini Cooper S with all the upgrades(leather, fog lamps, harman-kardon sound system, ugdo, rain sensors, dynamic stability control, cockpit package, mp3) everything (except sunroof) we paid 29,800 at the dealer and it's been highly maintained, no previous damage of any kind and 77,000 miles. Edmunds and local comps are showing between 19k(private) & 21k(dealer) to replace. The Insurance co. is using CCC and offering 15k, Would you have an ACV from someone other than CCC or Edmunds I could reference with the adjuster? Thank you!

I never did like CCC.

Me either, and was thrilled when we quit using it...

Now, why do I see so much of confusion everytime theres a CCC valuation involved?

Cause, (IMO) it stinks...and isn't very acurate a large percentage of the time...unless it's a cavalier, or grandam...a vehicle that there are a million of them on the road...

Am I being wrong...when I believe that by personally going for a comparable study of vehicle values within a close proximity, I'd arrive at a fair recovery by calculating the difference of my estimate with that of my carrier?

This is (just about) exactly what ccc supposedly does..

Quite so, very rarely CCC evaluates the price of a vehicle that bears close similarity with the condition of the vehicle in hand.

I've heard of a case where CCC has compared a 'totaled vehicle' with the single similar vehicle available in the vicinity.

I guess their survey is very hypothetical, and blind trust shouldn't be rest upon it.

Thanks,
jeorge

The TRUTH about CCC

Stephen C. Ryan has 30 years of experience dealing with insurance companies. He knows their tactics and their games. As a guest on Good Morning America, bad faith insurance claim attorney Stephen C. Ryan exposed the big insurance companies' tactics of offering "low ball" settlements on automobile total loss claims.

Yeah, again I hate to agree with Mike, but I do, also with most of the article...and the really sucky part is the adjusters on the ground do not make any decision or have any say in what system (s) is used to determine a vehicles ACV...personally I think CCC sucks have had to use it with two companys generally found a way around it, actually always found a way around their final number...and it was easy, all I ever had to do was call about the comps...don't think I ever found one that was exactly as it was supposed to be...(apples to apples rather than apples to oranges)...I really don't know to be honest how they have stayed in business....must be the smaller carriers using them or in different parts of the country than I'm in...because none of the company's I know use it anymore, including the big four....in theory it's great...but it comes down to garbage in garbage out...it's only as good as the guy/gal entering the comps....back in the mid eighties (yep that old)...they actually had people going to car lots, and to private homes viewing vehicles and entering the info right then and there...was alot more equitable then...but i seriously doubt they do that anymore...I can't speak to audatex's version never used it....

Can someone pleases help I'm having a similar problem with my insurance company
I own a 2003 GMC Yukon denali XL, with custom 23” rim and duel 12” headrest DVD entertainment system, the KBB value at the time of lost was retail: $20,053 without the entertainment system and rims, current value is $18500, geico offered $13500..
I've read the other postings on this blog and have check local dealerships within 10miles of my zip code for similar trucks. what I found was that there were only 3 denali xl for sale locally and 2 of them where around last November when I purchased my denali, these truck where in very bad condition and I never gave them a second look. I instead traveled 300 miles to road island and purchased a truck with twice the mileage but was very well maintained for the same price..

Question: can someone please let me know the fair CCC value of a:
2003 GMC Yukon Denali
Miles: 160,000
mint condition no scratches, dents, dings or mechanical flows. This truck was very well maintained I spent over 3k on preventive maintenance since purchase, and over 5k on accessories which was installed before i insured the vehicle I also have tones of detailed photographs and videos showing vehicle condition less than a month before it was stolen.
I was very proud of my truck

WOW what a lot of miles...whew......ok I get 16,750...that mileage was a (minus) -$3550.00 hit...goodness....I ran it as a 4 door AWD, if it's a 4door 'XL' AWd, let me know that will change things...looks like the only option missing (that adds value) is power sunroof if it has that and you forgot to mention it, then add 600.00....

Like I said your mileage hurt you a lot....maintence won't add a cent..depends on what the a/m accessories are whether or not they will add value or not...what has your carrier determined the value to be?

Also honey, don't make me work so hard, I don't know from zip codes...I ran it on a 'midwest' table, let me know what state and I'll check it again, typcially though not much more than a couple hundred difference..

Ok, re ran it now as an XL in from NY...got $17,325.00 (3550.00 deduct on that mileage)...Your rims and tires, won't add much if anything at all...of course a vehicle is valued assuming it has good tires and wheels on it...as a matter of fact, the factory wheels (new oem ) are from $185.31 to $610.96 depending on which one...only one is cheap rest are over 500.00 each and that isn't counting the center caps that are from 30-55.00 again that's each...I don't know what you paid for your wheels each but unless they were more than 600-700.00 a piece, then 200 over is probably about right....the head rest t.v.'s now is that in addition to a rear entertainment system or instead of? I added the rear entertainment system if that is not correct then deduct $450.00 from my ACV work up and then the adjuster will need to add for the t.v.'s what did they cost? And how long ago did you buy/install them?

How did they base their value?
