So what shold i do/ | Seems to me you've left out a lot of the story...first off, I'll assume the ambulance did NOT have on their lights and sirens correct? Did you not call the police? Didn't they come and issue a ticket to the ambulance? You did get the witnesses name and phone number correct? (by the way when this is all over you need to send her some flowers!)...Contact your carrier, let them know what happened...did the ambulance driver give you their insurance information? If so call their company and file a claim...if not call them and find out who their carrier is (if they are not self insured), and file a claim for the damages to your vehicle...were you hurt? if so you need to let their ins company know this as well...whatever you do don't lose that witnesses information! _________________ "Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well being of a person or animal is at stake. Was the ambulance a private company (non-emergent transport service) or was it contracted by or with a government agency / city / county? Most of the Emergent Trucks (911) are insured through the association of counties in most states. They are insured as government vehicles, and they have a very specific set of procedures to follow in the event of an accident.
In fact, most are trained in EVDT / EVO (Emergency Vehicle Driver Training or Emergency Vehicle Operations) not to speak with anyone in the event of an accident. Not even a state trooper or law enforcement until a county official arrives.
If the ambulance ran the red light...it will be treated just like any other vehicle that contributed to an accident. However, if they were responding to an emergency and they ran the red light...you can in some circumstances be cited for failure to yield (but this varies highly between states).
A very interesting case came out during our EVO class in which a paramedic was interviewed. He was going at an excessive rate of speed and ran through an intersection slamming into a vehicle while responding to a call. The passenger in the vehicle was killed and the paramedic actually had to serve time in jail.
I'm not sure exactly what your question is, but the police will investigate the cause and no doubt interview your witness. The insurance company of the ambulance provider will pay for your damages if they are found to be at fault. If you have any further questions...more details will be needed.
Wow...My EMT license actually was useful on this board...LOL! |

Did it cause a major damage? Didn't you come across anyone from the police?

Did he specify any reason?

What exactly was he trying to prove before the witness came up?

I'm missing one thing....has the OP turned the claim to the insurer?
Newstar, have you contacted the insurance company yet? I'd say you need to do it at the earliest. As Chris has mentioned there would be an investigation to find out the truth.
If you have insurance you may turn the claim to your insurer. Dealing with govt. bodies may be tiring at times. Your insurer would process the claim faster.
