Hey guys I was wondering if could get an opinion on the value of my car.
Here is the nitty gritty.
87' accord lxi 212000
deemed total loss
sunroof seal broken
tear in back seats from weathering by headrest
c.d. player
small previous dent on driver door
dirty but not torn carpets
all options for that model except leather
clean paint and clear coat
zip code 98310
Only place I can find value is NADA Classic car which I don't thing this is good example of that!
I am having a hard time finding comparable models in my area that are the same year and model. Do other cars that are the same generation count as comparable model?
Thanks for any help guys.

Chris

Hi Lori, do you think that the OP has a chance to receive greater value on the car if he files the claim with his insurer

yes, it's entirely possible, it really depends on what the carrier uses to determine ACV...it could be less too.. he would still have the option of going with the higher.

It might happen that his insurer too decides to offer the same amount as the third-party insurer. What would be his recourse then?

they might, but if so it would NOT be because his carrier talked to the other carrier ... they (his carrier) has to independently value his vehicle...were I him I'd just tell them i don't think they are offering me a fair value for my car, so I want you (my carrier) to figure the ACV so that I can make the best decision..if the value is the same, his only recourse then (if he wanted to go thru this which i personally wouldn't for a claim this small) would be to in act the appraisal claus in his ins contract 'if' there is one in his policy...

If he decides to file the claim with his insurer now, wouldn't it too enter in his claim history?

Yes, but it would be a 'non-chargeable' claim, meaning he could not be rated up for it.
