My car was backed into

by amy reed » Thu Oct 16, 2008 10:21 pm

My car was backed into by a uhaul truck while parked at work. My bumper was ripped off. I've sent the claims adjuster everything she told me she needed after finally haggling her contact info out of the operator. I spoke with her once, three days after the accident. The accident was two weeks ago, she still wont's answer the phone or respond to my email asking her to verify she recieved the information. What can I DO??? I need my car fixed.

The OP left this in my quick message box...

Hi Lori, Amy Reed here, not sure how to add to my posted question, so I'm trying this!! I live in Arkansas, the company insuring the uhaul is Republic Western out of Arizona, although my adjuster is in Nebraska. The one bolt that was holding my bumper on was removed after the police report and I've been driving it since, it's my only transportation, however, I can't drive it at night because my liscence plate lights were ripped out. Thanks for all your help.

Amy, when was the last time you talked to the adjuster? Was the driver an employee of uhaul or had he/she rented it?

Is this the claims adjuster for UHaul or the driver? Like I said before, you agent should be able to make some phone calls. Who is your insurance company? UHaul is notorious for not following through when there are claims against them.

Don't back down - hound them until you are satisfied.

Bless her heart Amy can't the thread...apparently...in my box

Lori,
I did as you suggested this morning, conviently enough there was no supervisor in at the moment but the operator said she'd leave an urgent message for my adjuster. She emailed me a moment ago saying she recieved the estimates and photos but still needed my title. I faxed my title the same day as the estimates, however resent it immediately. She said she turned it all over to their audit people and she'll get back to me as soon as she gets their response.
The Uhaul was driven by a person who rented it and so we're dealing with uhauls insurance company.

I haven't rented a UHaul truck...well, since I can't remember. When you do, do you automatically get their insurance?

I think they make you take it out...in this case lucky for the OP...

I am pretty sure that you have to use your car insurance. My mother in law recently rented one and had to give her car insurance info. She also had the option of purchasing additioal coverage from them to cover here deductiable. (She had a $500 deduct). Sounds to me when she explained it kind of like renting a vehicle from Enterprise. I am not 100% sure on this but this is my understanding of it.

I know with rent-a-cars you have the choice of your own or theirs (way more expensive). I always thought it was the same with rent-a-trucks.
