I plan on switching my car insurance to esurance, and have a few questions.

I'm getting online quotes and it seems esurance is half price of my current "nationwide", and almost seems too good to be true. I want to make sure I'm not missing anything that could leave me SOL.

My car is a crappy honda accord 1985. I don't need comprehensive or collision, because i don't care much about the car (its worth $200). nationwide has me paying $211 a month, esurance has me paying $121

That's what im getting from esurance, $639, 6 month premium, freakin great for me (ive got an accident and 2 tickets, and im only 20).

I need to know if im missing anything important, or if esurance is a terrible company (to explain their amazing rates)

Like i said, i just turned 20 so im really new to this, and some advice would be very nice =)

Bodily Injury Limits - $50,000/$100,000

Property Damage Limit - $50,000

Personal Injury Protection - Deductible - $200

Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury Limits -$25,000/$50,00

Supp Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury Limits - $50,000/$100,000 (it seems like this doesn't add to my premium)

that's ALL i have, nothing else. it totals $639 every 6 months. look good to you guys?

esurance is an online automible insurance company. Their rates are extremely low as compared with other insurance companies. However you my also like to check other online car insurance companies like :
Direct General Insurance Company
Progressive
Safeco
Unitrin Direct
Arrowhead General Insurance Agency
and others before making your choice

This is how the insurance industry works in most cases and this is why we stress to drivers to comparison shop as many companies as possible. Companies can differ as much as $600 on a single 6 month policy with like coverages, drivers and vehicles. People get amazed at the savings and have the same worries as you. Each company has their own formula that determines the auto insurance rates of drivers. Some of these companies put more weight on driving history, credit history, vehicle type, coverage options, deductible, age and many other factors. This is why drivers hsould compare coverages at all times. Esurance is a reputable company and according to ambest have a good rating. You can check the bbb.org to find out prior complaints if you like as well. You should be good with your new company as long as you have been truthful on your quotes and mention your accidents and tickets if any.

My '2 cents'? If something is 'working for you', then I would advise NOT to switch companies. I know people are concerned about the 'new deals' that other companies may have ( 'this is half-price', etc.). I have Nationwide Insurance and I'm very satisfied with them. Stay with who you feel you can trust. Hope this helps a bit.

All the carrier's are striving to maintain what they have, they make their money in renewals...problem is there is very little company or brand loyality now...and who can blame folks? It's the economy, 50 bucks a month is a lot of money to a lot of people...same folks never would've thought of shopping their insurance are now...I certainly don't blame a person for trying to save a few bucks where they can...but as always, 'buyer beware'.

working for me? $211 a month isn't working for me, $120 is =)

all i wanted to know is if my coverage is appropriate (ny), and that if i ever get into an accident i wont be getting sued because of lack of coverage (unless maybe someone died or i hit a sports car). and also, if esurance is a reputable company

im pretty sure these questions were answered though, right? seems that my limits are fine and esurance is a good company, so sweet

You should have no qualms about switching to Esurance. Your coverage limits look fine, but I have one suggestion.

I obviously know nothing about your financials, but you said that your car is a 1985 and that you don't have Comp or Coll. It probably would not be worth it to pay for Comp / Coll...HOWEVER...Now that you're saving about $90 a month...you should take some of the difference and put it in a savings account. You won't miss the money, and if you get in an accident (one that's not your fault)...the insurance company is going to give you very little money to replace your vehicle.

Good Luck!

Hey Chris..thats a pretty good idea. Being young its hard to save but if it was going out anywway..why not.
SD hopefully you see this post but I have nationwide and had them for over 10 years. Recently I was going to switch after finding cheaper rates and they actually matched those rates and did a WAY better policy. I would get a few quotes and then take them to your agent. You would be surprised what they could offer.

Since the OP is young and through switching he would save a great deal I see no issues with his changing the carrier. The customer should take the opportunity to save money without compromising with the coverage whenever they can. That is why the option of shopping around is available.

However, sticking to one company might be beneficial since you may get some discounts on the premium rate for your loyalty, but I don't see it as an option for the OP because at his age the rates would be high anyway.

llmercll, best of luck with the new carrier. But remember to drive carefully otherwise you might find the great rates gone.

Thanks,
Rupert

As with any business that we all deal with, value should make more of a deciding factor than price. Too many people simply look at the lowest priced option, and it doesn't even have to be dealing with insurance. It may be cheaper to go with Company B vs. Company A, but is Company B going to offer the same features, benefits, and service?

All agents (especially the ones working with more expensive companies) must be familiar with the services offered and how it relates to cost.

This is one habit that is so well prevailed. The cheap rates are so appealing that people would decide to overlook the services they would get from it. Therefore, agents should always be aware of the rates and benefits offered by the competitors to be able to present before the clients in order to retain their confidence on them.

You wouldn't always get the best benefits with cheap rates. And, it happens more often than we think that it actually would.
