tl, honey calm down and take a breath..how old are you? whos car are you going to drive? is that car insured already? or do you have to BUY A CAR RIGHT NOW too? What state are you in? are you sure you need proof of ins. to just get a drivers license? (you don't in my state)? as tcope asked have you contacted any agent at all or is that what you thought you were doing here? _________________ "Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well being of a person or animal is at stake. | You don't need insurance to get a DL in the state of PA, either. You DO need to be insured to drive..however. |

Well, in some states, such as North Carolina, you need to have insurance in order to get driving license. These states require you to carry at least the state minimum limit of the liability coverage for the licensing purpose.
However, tl, tcope is right, you may contact the local insurance agent and get quotes from them. You may check with the state insurance department website to get the list of the insurance companies allowed to do business in your area. Also, you can clarify from there whether or not you are required the proof of insurance to get the license. |

| My car insurance policy is through Nationwide. I don't know how 'worldwide' they are, but....they've been pretty good to me. You may want to try them. |

Well, if you're not carrying the state minimum liability, you might get others into trouble. BTW, are you from NC?

| I'm from PA. I was just looking at the 'Laws' for other states. It can be confusing:what you need, for each state, etc. I have friends asking me questions about Insurance (auto). They live in Ohio and Virginia. The best advice I can really give them is to check with THEIR state. I know some states can be more 'strict' ( lack of a better word) about driving privilges than others. |

anonymous8912,
Thank you for providing the additional information. That makes sense, and your situation is not uncommon.
If you are going to be driving your aunt's car on a regular basis, then you will need to be listed as a driver on her policy, whether or not you have your own insurance. Have her call her agent and see if you can be added now, even though your license is not yet issued. If your state requires insurance before licensing, then her agent should be familiar with that type of situation. I would expect the DMV to accept that as proof of insurance (IF you are actually listed as a driver), but her agent can answer that question with certainty.
Best of luck! _________________ Christy P.
