I too am 19 and I just moved to NC in December 2010 from Texas. I am living with my mother and 3 brothers and I really need to get my license so I can transport myself where I need to go. However, I also know that I have to have car insurance, (wich I think is nuts but ok), before I can obtain my license. Here's the thing though, I have now been on the following websites:
Allstate
Progressive
State Farm
Nation Wide
USAA
and
Geico

Sounds great right?
It's not, every single one of them ask for the information on the vehicle I own and I do not.
Therefore, I am unable to complete the qoutes and get my Auto insurance.

Anyone have any other sugestions?

Thank You

Sure . . . you think having insurance is nuts because you don't own a car, a home, or have any savings to lose if you drive and kill someone through your own negligence. What do YOU have to lose? When you grow up, and learn the definition of personal responsibility, your attitude might change.

In the meantime, you need to find a local insurance agent/broker and ask for a "Named, Non-Owner" auto policy. No insurance company will make that available on its website, but all the same insurance companies may offer it through an agent who will assess your need and recommend the correct coverage.

To above person, alright, well that other person who wants/needs insurance can get it for himself if I accidently hit him. I will take the risk of driving my $2500 vehicle.. It is worthless, and it does not seem that getting insurance that in a few years will cost MORE than my actual CAR is fair to someone like me. If I owned a nice car, I would get insurance, but I don't....

No one forces you to insure your crappy vehicle for collision damage you do to yourself. But you must have liability coverage for the damage you do to others.

See this link if you think doing damage to your own car is the only thing you have to consider:

You don't have enough money to "take the risk" . . . you drive a worthless car . . . it matches your ability to pay a multi-million dollar wrongful death judgment.

Reading some of the above posts. There are actually some states that you need Insurance before you get a DL? When I got my DL (years ago) you didn't need Insurance to get it. I obtained my DL (originally) in the state of California. I'm sure laws have changed in that state (and other states) since then.

When applying for a Driver License in all states, as far as I know, one signs an agreement with the state to accept "financial responsibility" for one's activities behind the wheel. When a minor applies for a license, their parent must sign agreeing to accept that responsibility on behalf of their child.

Financial responsibility is most easily maintained through insurance, but that is not the only means. One may also deposit the minimum liability limit in cash or bond with the state.

I don't know of any state that "requires a person to have insurance" in order to be licensed. It is the act of driving without "proof of financial responsibility" that is a crime.

The majority of states also have laws concerning insuring vehicles. Once again, a bond or cash deposit with the state satisfies the legal requirement. Sadly, in all states, too many vehicles and/or drivers have the attitude of Anonymous above -- my vehicle is crappy, so why do I need insurance?

It's not about your crappy car, it's about what you and your crappy car can do to others that you don't have the money to pay for.
