Side swiped over night, will Geico raise my insurance?

Hi All!

I woke up this morning and the side of my car got side swiped parked right in front of my house! Both side doors and the side of the back bumper are all scratched up and a chunk of metal got pushed up on the door, hard to explain. No dents or anything but I'm estimating 1000K plus. Do you think Geico will raise my insurance if it wasn't my fault?

I have a clean record with them, two things though, just last week my wife got rear ended but it was the other drivers fault and he's insurance paid for everything but of course Geico was notified because they lay out the money then get reimbursed by the other insurance company. So not sure if that matters. Also, I submitted a similair claim about 2-3 years ago, someone hit me in a parking lot but I was grocery shopping so kind of the same situation. I have no luck let me tell you! Geico luckily covered everything and didn't raise my premiums. I'm hoping to have the same luck this time around, what are your thoughts?

Thanks!

I'm sorry, but there is no standard answer to this question. Geico may or may not raise the premium. They have the sole discretion in this regard.

However, insurers, at times, may ignore the first instances. and thats why possibly, your premium hadn't increased after the first accident and not because of sheer luck.

It seems that you may have to file a claim with your insurer under the comprehensive coverage. It'll be a claim involving single car (yours).

I may have an explanation why your premium hadn't increased after both the earlier accidents. Both of the accidents involved two cars and also in both cases the other parties' involved were the parties at-fault. It hadn't cost Geico directly.

However, the earlier poster is right the insurance company holds the right to review your premium but still they can't alter the rate before the next renewal of the policy.

Hi personwth?'s, I can understand your anxiety, but the best person to tell you what might happen is the CSR at you insurer's office. But let me add that if you experience a price hike that may not only because of this incident. There are several other factors that can modify the car insurance rate, like- state law, overall rise in the rates and such.

Also, a minor accident may not alter the rates, though different companies treat incidents differently. Companies like Allstate may overlook the first instance if you have a clear record and have maintained the policy with them for over five years.

BTW, can you remember of your's walking out of the bed at the dead of the night and drive and crash your car? because Geico will perform a serious investigation before they actually recognize your claim.

Rupert, how do you consider this a comprehensive claim? A car hit his car. That is considered collision.

Well, I guess that needs probing. If the car was hit by another car, then its certainly the case of collision. However, if the damage wasn't a result of another vehicle colliding with OP's car, then it may go under the comprehensive. And, at times the side swipes may result from some other activities at the night times

I know you this was months ago but I want to add my 2 cents in case someone else finds this on the internet. I work for Geico and rest assured, anytime you are not at fault for an accident, we will not raise your rates. We actually give you the benefit of the doubt and base our liability decision off what you tell us. If we have a reason to suspect otherwise we may investigate. Usually we only question it if you had a lapse in coverage recently or are new to us. But seriously, if your car gets hit and you were not at fault we will help you. Be nice to your claims reps! They are people just like you who also get in accidents.

Also just fyi- when you call in a claim, please be kind and answer only the questions we ask. When people get pushy, bossy or rude, we are less likely to give you the random good advice we give the nicer people. Be calm, have your paperwork in front of you. Everything will go smoothly if you just be yourself and don't think we're constantly out to get you.

I"m sure if a claim is filed, the adjuster will be able to tell if it was another car that was responsible.

I'm thinking a bird...or camel...wild bison or badger would not do the same damage.
