| I am full of questions tonight. I was considering letting my brother move nack in with me for a short stay. I heard somewhere, don't remember where, that if he is under my roof and gets into an accident in a vehicle not owned by me that my insurance could still be sued since he resided at my address. I am finding this very hard to believe, especially if it wasn't a vehicle of mine that would be involved. |

Nope. About the only think he could obtain from your insurance is P.I.P coverage for his medical bills if he was injured. But this would happen in only a few states.
You would not be liable in away for his actions. Now would he be considered an insured under your policy for liability coverage (not your vehicle). |

Only insurance that can be touched is your HO liability insurance if someone hurts themselves on your property.
If he is driving his car, under his insurance (or no insurance), and gets into an accident, you are free and clear. _________________ Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. - Ferris Bueller |

Good ....no wait....great!!! I was pretty furious when I was told this. Here I am thinking it is my car, I paid for it and the insurance and someone living under my roof can collect even if it never left the driveway
What made me ask this is a few years ago he was living with my other sister and was in a wreck. He wasn't living with her at that very time but moved in after cause of his injuries. The Atty he hired and my sis took him to see started inquiring about her onsurance info and she flat out refused him any info. This is probaly whre she came up with that. |

If he's only staying with you but not driving your car, your insurance won't be responsible for the damages that he might cause during an accident. Hope he has his own insurance for coverage.
If he is driving someone else's vehicle, then that individual's auto insurance will be responsible for the accidents caused by the driver.
Ask your brother to carry non-owner's insurance or renter's insurance if he doesn't have a standard auto policy.

| No not a minor. I am rethinking whether I want to go down this road with the bro anyway. Just thought I would get some facts first. He seems to be always on the downhill slide no matter how many times he is helped out.... |

Is there a concern that he might "borrow" your car without asking? _________________ Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. - Ferris Bueller |

| Well maybe in the past but never again. I lock my vehicles up tight since I have had one "borrowed" and come back with a smashed side window. Even if it is just my hubby and I we always lock them. |

I had (he died three years ago) a very ''troubled'' younger brother as well so know the pain...just remember YOU cannot change anyone...and don't make the mistake of allowing ANYONE to disrupt YOUR family. (little friendly unsolicited advise)... _________________ "Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well being of a person or animal is at stake. | My brother came as close to dath as he ever will without dying. He overdosed and when the found him he was foaming at the mouth and died. they got him breathing again. You think he would have learned from that but still the drugs rule his life. I understand what you are saying about allowing someone to disrupt my families life. I have told him no to the moving in. I really don't need the extra set of problems when I have my own life to refigure out. Thank you for sharing with me your story. God Bless you. |
