I have a college student who is not on my auto policy. He was invovled in an accident with a transit bus...rear ended the bus after another driver tapped my vehicle from behind and he went into a hydroplane on a rainy day. Here is the problem, my car is basically totaled, the bus no damage . The third driver left the scene.

Two people who left the scene off the bus initially are now saying that they have injuries (none went to the hospital from the scene. The police never showed after two hours of waiting so there is no police report.

What are my rights as a parent in regard to the insueing bill to come?

Since he wasn't insured with your policy the insurer may not take-up the issue. So, you may end up paying huge medical bills for the injured passenger if your son was the cause of the accident. Also, if they wish they can sue you for recovering the damages.

However, if its the another driver who has hit your son first he/she should be liable for the damages caused both to your vehicle and the passengers of the bus. But the fault needs to be determined. Do you have the plate number of the other car? Were there witnesses who would vouch for your son? You may still go to the police and file a complaint.

How do you know that the injured passengers had left the bus before the accident? Also, they might have suffered soft tissue injuries which have developed later no. Its not unusual to realise the pains afterwards. Have they gone to the hospital now? You may wish to contact the insurer and inform them about the accident.

Cassie, welcome and sorry you are under this stress...ok, first off the driver had permission to drive your vehicle right? If so your carrier will handle everything...second, is there ANYTHING AT ALL that will prove your vehicle was hit from behind? If so then THAT vehicle is the one at fault for this loss and your carrier may chose to deny all claims...your vehicle is totaled and zero damage to the bus? sorry but no, there has to be atleast some paint damage to rear bumper something...your carrier can also deny this 'if' they can prove your vehicle was hit from behind and knocked into the bus...if not (again) your carrier will handle the bus damage and the injuries don't worry they will sort this out...many times people don't think they are hurt and wake up the next day and can hardly move...there are also people who are just waiting to hit the 'ins. lottery' but again don't worry your carrier will handle this...if your carrier does deny all liability, and you receive anything you get it straight to your carrier so they can handle any suits filed...

As to your vehicle if you have collision coverage your car will be handled above your deductible..

You have turned in this claim right? If not you need to get on it NOW...

Who was this college student, and why were they driving your vehicle?
