they do not need to own an insurance, as long as you allow them to drive your car. however, if your insurance policy excludes this, he will need an insurance.

If a driver has his own insurance on his own vehicle and is driving another vehicle, that does not have insurance unknowningly and wrecks it. Does the insurance carry over to that vehicle that was wrecked or any other vehicle involved in the accident? Even though the actualy vehicle that was wrecked had no insurance? Please help!

My friend! It is simply illegal in 48 states (apart from WI & NH) to drive a car on public roads that has no insurance. Just forget about your insurance cover for the wreck.

As usual, mangoqurious is wrong, and his information is not to be trusted.

Your personal auto insurance will apply as secondary coverage to the same extent it would have if it were your own vehicle.

A vehicle does not have to be insured, per se, but the driver does. It is unlawful for a person to operate a vehicle on the public highways without proof of financial responsibility. In most states, however, it is also not possible to register/renew the registration of a vehicle which is not covered by insurance, but that does not prevent the vehicle from being driven on the public highways.
