Hi. Can my boyfriend be added to my car insurance policy as a driver? I live in NJ and have nj full insurance. He, however, lives in Pennsylvania with a Pennsylvania drivers liscense. However, he does borrow my car often which is why I am asking. He does not own a car or have any type of insurance at this time. If he cannot be added, is it still ok for him to drive my car?

Potentially couldn't everything she owns be at risk really,

Well yes, of course, if mis-rep occurs the claim will not be paid, not one penney. What you are talking about is being Under insured (same as that allstate commerical)...there's a big difference in UNDER ins. and NON-insured.

I don't know..I would STILL be sceptical about putting the insurance in someone else's name, as a DRIVER of the car. Of course, ( as it was talked about earlier..) something could happen and the OP would be 'liable'.

Goes to show a person to make sure they have the right coverage limits. A civil suit usually doesn't happen to often from what I understand. They can file a suit but the chances of the person who was injured actually seeing the money is slim to none. I would just really think about how this could effect me before making a final decision.

There are people that don't care what kind of insurance they have, that is they would the least amount available. So if you are in an accident with them then you end up with the underinsured motorist who has nothing to compensate you on the civil end of things either.

I made sure that this was definately part of my new policy, I think I actually understand the terms of my policy this time, for the first time, thanks to this site, reading and learning enough to know that I needed to ask and request of the company.

Some people want to get the 'cheapest' insurance. If something DOES happen, and they don't have the 'amount' to cover damamges, injury, etc. , I'm sure it can cost a bundle!! A friend told me once that the "cheap can come out expensive." OHHH.......SO true!!

I felt bad for a lady that I met the other day, she came in with her daughter, her daughter and her were in a terrible accident, she had limited tort, she said her fiance paid out of pocket for most of her care, but her daughter was never really taken care of. The daughter is supposed to be taking medications that is around $300 a month, she has no coverage so she is not taking the medications. She is looking for a job with medical coverage. This limited tort accident has cost this family a lot, I think it was a lack of knowledge on their part that made them chose the cheaper insurance. Like you say, be cheap now pay more if something happens.

Maybe I need to 'brush up' on my car Insurance..LOL "tort": do you get this in 'Liability' coverage.or......'Full' coverage? Can someone explain what it is? I've HEARD of it, but..(forgive my 'lack of knowledge' here) don't know what it is.

SD All states don't have this, I'm pretty sure PA does though...is that where you are? If you chose non-tort, your rates are going to be less but you give up the right to sue the party that injurys you...IMO I'd only do that if i were seriously on the edge (financially)...and change it back as soon as I could..
