So you park at a public parking lot, your car is damaged and they tell you to get an estimate and they will cut you a check. Are you obligated to have the car repaired?

The check is for the repair of your vehicle. I guess if the check is made out to you, then the money is yours to do whatever. The company is paying you for damages they are at fault for.

Sounds reasonable. I just wonder isn't most parking lots park at your own risk kind of thing. I am glad you got you damages covered I just thought I would throw the question out there while we were on the subject.

So, what are you planning to do with the fund that you'll receive from the parking lot's insurance company Very Happy

Anyway, it holds good in most of the accident cases. Well, some insurance company may insist upon repairing the vehicle at their suggested body shop, but others may only issue the check once the claim amount is decided. And you can do whatever you want with the money. So, good luck!

Jeremy, no insurance company can 'insist' that a vehicle be repaired period, much less at a preferred facility...the only thing they 'must' do is protect the lein holder on a first party claim...

fire, certain rules of the road still apply, ie if he was hit while parked, other party backing, he was rearended etc...the problem with parking lot accidents is a lot of hit and runs...no police reports, and 'he said she said' claims...but many are still capable of being handled just as if they were on the road..

Thanks for explaining. I always wondered how that worked. So if you are hit in a parking lot and no one sticks around to own up to it do you have to pay your deductible..something is telling me it would be payable.

Oh well at least the coverage is there. Sometimes a scrape can add up especially if it dents the door and repainting is needed.
