your best bet is to fix the car yourself if you have the money and are able to do so. insurance companies like to give you a run around a lot. thats what I am going threw right now with my insurance company. and they fixed my car with out me authorizing this to be done. but expect me to pay the deductible. craziness.

Days, perhaps you should re-read the OP...not only his vehicle but the vehicle he hit need fixing...

LORI........if you DO pay your Deductible ( whatever it happens to be) and you ALSO have to pay for the repairs on the other vehicle..how does THAT work? I mean, I would think MORE money would be coming out of the faulted-drivers pocket to fix the OTHER car, as well. ..instead of the just paying the Deductible. I hope you understand my question. The only accident I was in was hitting a guard rail and had damages to MY car repaired. How does it work on ANOTHER vehicle?

SD, I'm little confused :? but anyway, would try to answer the question....

If you have caused an accident where both yours and the other driver's car needs mending then you not only have to pay to fix your vehicle but also need to accept the liability for the damages caused by you.

No deductible applies to the liability coverage but if you want to get your car fixed under the collision coverage, you would end up paying both the deductible and the claim to the other driver. But, these are two separate claims, keep that in mind.

OH..OK!! I see. I din't realize that this was TWO seperate claims. I'm saying,..obviously your Deductible takes car of your OWN car. I just din't know if you actually get a SEPERATE bill for damages for the other car. So...on this SPEPERATE bill..who do you pay? The other driver or the driver's Insurance company?

I'm not sure I'm 100% on what you are asking s.d. so I will answer 'both' that I think it is...ok....

If you have ins. and file the claim with your carrier (assuming that you are at fault and both yours and the other guys cars are damaged), you will pay your deductible under your collision coverage to fix your vehicle. Your carrier will pay any damage over that amount. They will also pay to fix the other guys car, (no deductible)..this one cost you immediately out of pocket your deductible...and your premiums will likely increase..

Same thing only this time, you either don't have ins, or don't want to use it. You would owe for the damage to your vehicle (total amount not just deductible)..and the full amount of the other guys damages.....this one cost you for all the damages to yours and other guys car immediately out of pocket with no increase in premium...assuming of course he doesn't come back within the statute of limitation and file an injury claim...cause if he does, now you are out all of this money AND your premium will increase after your carrier pays the b.i. claim.

Jeremy, that depends on what your coverage says. If the accident is your fault then you have to pay the deductible, but only one time to fix one of the cars and the insurance pays for the rest pending the amount of coverage that you have in your contract with the insurance company.

days, all policys have some basic points that are universal..

If you use your collision coverage whether your fault or not your collision coverage deductible will apply..

Same with comprehensive, (comp is never your fault)..if you use your comp coverage your comp deductible applies..

If you go thru another party's coverage, (someone elses fault) and their policy/company accepts liability they will pay to fix your vehicle thru that policys PD (property damage) coverage, there is no deductible for the vehicle owner or their insured...

One more thing..collision and comp deductibles apply to each and every loss/accident/claim that is turned in..it's not like health ins. where you have a deductible per year...auto policy deductibles are take on each and every loss (collision and comp)...if you have a 500 collision deductible and turn in five claims even within the the same month you will be charged five deductibles (2500.00)

LORI..ok,..I'm 'clear; on paying your Deductible to repair your OWN car. But, are you saying you pay it, AGAIN, to pay for the damamges of the OTHER car, as well? I'm just trying to understand where the money comes from to pay the damages for the OTHER car.
