My husband was found more than 50% at fault for an auto accident several months ago. (State Farm paid out a relatively small amount -- much less than our coverage -- and the claim is closed.) My husband decided to voluntarily surrender his license 7 days after the accident, and I have the paperwork to prove it. DMV shows it as "suspended". Now State Farm has cancelled my auto insurance, even after I signed their exclusion endorsement that they would not be liable if he decided to drive. Their "reason" is that a driver with a suspended license in the household is too high a hazard. Won't every other insurance company claim the same thing? What do I do now, while trying to get SF to reinstate my coverage?
My own driving record is excellent. Thanks. |

Hi Shirley
Every auto insurer has its own "risk selection" and underwriting rules. So it is probably possible to get coverage with him as an excluded driver somewhere. You just don't meet State Farm's guidelines. Call around for quotes. There are lots of other companies around.
Good luck
PS it sounds as though they would have kept you if he still had his license? Maybe they would have "forgiven" the accident? _________________ I am an insurance broker from Ontario licensed for all types of insurance.

Contact several other carriers for quotes...there is one out there that will take you but do it quickly before your policy is in cancel status. _________________ "Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well being of a person or animal is at stake. | I'm now told the cancellation notice was a mistake, especially since I'd signed the exclusion endorsement. But SF won't be sending anything in writing, other than the upcoming declarations page, as renewal approaches. Not exactly a comfortable feeling. So I will do some comparison shopping while making sure the automatic payment from my checking account continues. I also think it's a good idea to write my own letter, restating what I was told on the phone. |

I agree it's a good idea, actually THEY should follow up with a letter reiterating your conversation! _________________ "Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well being of a person or animal is at stake.
