Not happy with repair. Now what?

Ok, I'm going to try to keep this as short as possible but it'll be hard. I was in an accident where the driver of the car that hit me had no insurance. So my company has to eat the bill for my car. In my opinion and in the opinion of many other people that saw the damage it should have been totaled. . I was told it was a total loss at first but then they changed their mind. That made me wonder why they were fixing it when they originally said it was a total loss. But because the value of the car was around 30k and the estimate to repair it was around 16k they fixed it. After 2 months I got it back 2 weeks after it was due. It looks horrible! I was promised everything would be 100% to factory spec and as good as new. Well it's not even close. I'm not a body man however I do work on cars for a living so I know what to look for. Most of the problems are cosmetic however the engine sounds like it's messed up and there are a few things that will cause safety issues with the airbags. The shop promises to fix everything 100% to my likings but how can I trust them after all the other promises they didn't keep? This is my family vehicle and I don't feel safe putting my wife and two kids in it even if they do fix it. How do I know if they installed the airbag properlly if they can't even fix simple thing right? So my question is what should I do? I can't trade it in looking as bad as it does nore would I want someone else to buy it. I don't feel the body shop is capable of doing the job right. Now what? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading my short but long problem.

Mike deals with repair if I am remembering correctly. This is probaly one of the more qualified people to answer your post. Don't let up on the insurance company either and remember your rights.

I hope you are able to keep your daily isssues posted on this mess. I'm sure Mike and your advocate will show you that, not only did the bodyshop perform substandard repairs to your vehicle, but the insuror probably played an equal role in the demise concerning the value of your repairs.

Well we finally talked to the guy from the insurance company friday. Him and another top guy will be coming to look everything over and make sure everything gets handled right this time. If we still don't feel everything is corrected after they repair it again they'll bring someone from the manufacture of the car to make sure everything is 100%. They are providing a rental car untill we are happy. They seem to really want to make things right so we'll see how it goes. My neighbor knows some people that work for the insurance bureau and is going to see what else we can do to make sure we don't get screwed around. It's going to be a busy week so I'll try and keep everyone posted. Thanks again

Sorry for the wait it's been a crazy 2 weeks. Well the car went back to the body shop again and now we have it back. Body work is better but I'm going to have another shop touch up a few things. The insurance company is paying for everything we want till we're happy. The interior problems are going to a shop that know what their doing. Rather then having the body shop that has no clue what their doing try to replace everything they broke etc. I'm thinking about contacting the b.b.b. about the body shop or as I've been calling them the body slop. The shop does poor work and hasseled us about the problems. Our insurance company has been great about getting everything handled. Hopefully they'll stop using that shop in the future. Thanks to Mike and everyone for the help and support.

Do you know if once a car is said to be total loss, then they say it can be fixed and they start the repairs later to find its really a total loss, what happens?? Who pays the bill for the work they already did?? Could it happen?

Yes it happens, NEVER intentionally. The carrier would pay the shop for what they have done thus far...
