I purchased a second vehicle

I purchased a second vehicle and thought I had a grace period to add to my insurance. In the meantime, my son had possession of the vehicle, loaned it to someone else and it was totalled. My insurance company won't cover. Who do I go after to hopefully pay for this vehicle.

So depending on the state any newly aquired vehicle or a replacement vehicle you have 30 days to report it to your carrier?

I think more of a company policy than a state policy.

I have called mine the exact day if at all possible, I always figure if I don't pay it they don't waste the time cancelling me, so I ain't wasting any time filing the claim. I have only filed one claim in my 42 years, but you can bet if it happens they will hear about it asap.

That is the best thing to do. With 24 hour Customer Service, it's relatively easy to make the call. I would definitely follow up with "your" agent to make sure the 24 hour people did everything right.

Based on experience, some of them aren't the brighest crayons in the box.

So your a litle like me GN. I haven't had a claim yet on my auto (knock on wood). I totally forgot about the 24 hour hotline but can you use it to report a new vehicle? I had always thought it was for reporting an accident?
